Preventative Care

Gentle preventative care

Protecting your most important asset – your smile.

The most comprehensive dental care starts with safeguarding your smile. We take a proactive approach to your oral health by recommending essential treatments now to prevent bigger issues later.

Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I hate the dentist and have avoided it for a couple years. The hygienist did not make me feel terrible about it and did a great job cleaning my teeth. Happy I gave the office a try.

Cleanings

During your visit, hygienists clean below the gum line, polish your teeth, and discuss the best tools and habits to keep your teeth clean at home. Regular visits also help us catch problems before they become painful and costly to fix. We recommend having your teeth cleaned at least every six months to keep your teeth looking and feeling their best.

Digital Radiography

DIGITAL X-RAYS

Our office uses digital technology to capture x-ray images, which provides clear, easy to read images with the safest, lowest-dose radiation possible. We also use 3D cone beam imaging to get a full 3D image of the teeth, bone, and nerves when we need to take a more detailed look. A cone beam CT uses up to 10 times less radiation than a traditional medical CT image.

Thorough exams

EXAMS & CONSULTS

Our doctors believe that every dental exam is a whole health exam. The mouth is the gateway to the rest of your body, and we want to make sure that it reflects an accurate picture of your true health. Checking your blood pressure, reviewing medical history, and knowing how to coordinate dental care for patients who are undergoing or have a history of cancer, organ transplant, and other complex medical issues is an area where we are uniquely qualified.

Fluoride protection

FLUORIDE

Fluoride treatment for our pediatric patients at each six-month exam keeps teeth strong and cavity-free. Adults with sensitivity, dry mouth, or a history of cavities are also encouraged to have fluoride applied at each visit, especially if you drink bottled water on a regular basis (which doesn’t contain the fluoride added to municipal drinking water).

Occlusal guards to save your teeth

NIGHT GUARDS

Tension headaches and muscle spasms in the face and jaw can often be signs of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). TMD treatment includes a variety of approaches, including a guard to wear at night that separates your teeth and helps your muscles relax. If you have pain, joint noises, or your jaw feels like it gets “stuck” open or closed, let’s talk about what we can do to improve your comfort.

Athletic smile protection

ATHLETIC MOUTH GUARDS

Athletic mouth guards are flexible, molded guards that we custom fit to your teeth to protect them from impact during contact sports.

Stay ahead of oral cancer

ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Dr. Augello trained at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Dental Oncology, and Dr. Lawson trained at Erie County Medical Center with a focus in Oral Oncology. When you come in to see us, the doctors use this special training to check over 10 places to make sure that your teeth, gums, cheeks, tongue, tonsils, and hard and soft palate are cancer free and healthy. There is never an extra charge for this service – it's always part of the exam from our team of experts.

Sealants to protect those shiny teeth

SEALANTS

Sealants prevent cavities from forming in the deep grooves of permanent teeth where your toothbrush often cannot reach. These non-invasive "raincoats" for your teeth are applied by our hygienists and checked every time you visit our office. We recommend sealants to protect the chewing surfaces of molar teeth on our youngest patients.
